Lightning Protection in Coal Mines and Lightning Warning System
Article source:Weather station time:2025-06-17 09:22:48 viewed:390times
Due to the special mining environment, coal mines have large amounts of flammable and explosive gases/dust underground, and numerous large electrical equipment and communication systems arranged on the surface. When lightning occurs, the powerful lightning current generates electromagnetic pulses that may damage electrical equipment, cause system paralysis, and trigger power outages. Moreover, the generated sparks may ignite combustible substances underground, leading to serious disasters such as gas explosions and fires, threatening miners' lives and causing huge economic losses. Therefore, lightning protection in coal mines is a critical link to ensure safe production.
To effectively address lightning threats, regulations require coal mines to install a Lightning Warning System.
The Lightning Warning System FT-LD1 is a monitoring device that real-time monitors changes in atmospheric electric fields. It consists of multiple key components: an electric field detection sensor, a data acquisition and processing unit, and a warning release module.
The electric field detection sensor detects subtle fluctuations in the surrounding atmospheric electric field. When a thunderstorm cloud approaches, the electric field intensity changes significantly, and the sensor captures these changes in a timely manner, transmitting signals to the data acquisition and processing unit.
This unit receives signals from the sensor. By comparing real-time data with lightning occurrence thresholds, the system judges key information such as the intensity, distance, and movement direction of lightning activities. Once it detects that the lightning threat reaches the warning level, the system quickly triggers the warning release module.
The warning release module notifies relevant personnel in the coal mine through multiple channels. It displays alarm information on screens at key locations such as the dispatch room, offices, and wellheads. The system also transmits warning messages to every miner and staff member via broadcasting, text messages, acoustic-optic alarms, etc., enabling them to take timely measures (e.g., stopping outdoor operations, evacuating hazardous areas, turning off power for critical equipment) to minimize the hazards of lightning to the coal mine and ensure safe production and personnel safety.
