Construction Site Dust and Noise: Problems, Solutions and Monitoring

Dust and noise are the main environmental protection issues on construction sites. Construction site dust mainly originates from operations such as earthwork excavation, material stacking, on-site mixing, and vehicle driving. It becomes more severe in dry and windy weather. Noise, on the other hand, is mainly generated by construction machinery and equipment like excavators, loaders, mixers, electric saws, vibrators, as well as the driving of transportation vehicles.

To address the dust problem, a continuous and closed enclosure not lower than 1.8 meters can be set up around the construction site to reduce the diffusion of dust. Easily airborne materials such as sand, earthwork, and cement should be covered with dust-proof nets or tarpaulins. Regularly sprinkle water on the construction site to increase air humidity and reduce dust. Transportation vehicles should adopt enclosed transportation and be washed when entering and leaving the construction site. A vehicle washing platform equipped with high-pressure water guns should be set up at the entrance and exit of the construction site.

If you want to solve the noise problem, during construction, you can select equipment and processes that are technologically advanced and produce low noise. Avoid carrying out high-noise operations during residents' rest time, such as from 22:00 at night to 6:00 the next day and during the lunch break from 12:00 to 14:00. In special cases where continuous construction is required, relevant procedures should be handled in advance and the nearby residents should be notified. Set up sound insulation barriers such as color steel plates and brick walls around the construction site or on the side close to the residential area. Regularly maintain and service the construction equipment to ensure its proper operation. Reasonably plan the construction site, arrange high-noise equipment away from residential areas, and optimize the construction process to reduce the generation of unnecessary noise.

The dust and noise detector is a device used to monitor the dust concentration and noise level in the environment. It can accurately measure the dust and noise in places such as construction sites, industrial enterprises, and road construction sites in real time and continuously, and display the current dust concentration value and noise decibel value, enabling relevant personnel to timely understand the environmental situation.

It can record and store the monitoring data to form historical data, which is convenient for subsequent query and analysis of the changing trends of dust and noise, providing strong data support for environmental management. This device has the function of setting thresholds. When the dust concentration or noise level exceeds the preset standard values, it will automatically send out an alarm signal to remind relevant personnel to take corrective measures in a timely manner and avoid adverse impacts on the surrounding environment and residents' lives.

It provides accurate data basis for environmental protection departments and relevant regulatory agencies, facilitating environmental supervision of various places. The regulatory authorities can impose penalties on units that illegally discharge dust and noise based on this data, urge them to comply with environmental protection regulations, and strengthen environmental management.
